A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that focuses on enhancing the shape and position of the breasts. Over time, factors such as gravity, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and aging can cause the breasts to lose their firmness and elasticity, resulting in sagging or drooping breasts. If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your breasts and wish to restore a more youthful and uplifted contour, a breast lift may be the ideal solution for you.

Our goal is to provide our patients in Houston, Kingwood, The Woodlands, and Cypress with beautifully reshaped and contoured breasts, ultimately boosting their self-confidence and overall satisfaction with their appearance.

About Breast Lifts

The female breast is a symbol of femininity and beauty. However, factors such as aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and breastfeeding can cause them to lose their youthful shape and position. This can lead to sagging, also known as breast ptosis, which involves the descent of the nipple to a lower position on the breast and excess skin in the lower breast. (1) These factors can affect a woman’s self-confidence and body image.

The breast lift has steadily increased in popularity over the years, and is now one of the most commonly-performed cosmetic procedures in the country. In fact, a recent report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates that the number of breast lifts performed has increased by 70% since 2000. (2) It can be a standalone surgery, combined with a breast augmentation, or be incorporated into comprehensive body contouring procedures such as the highly sought-after Mommy Makeover.

Types of Breast Lift

Every breast lift procedure is unique, and there are several incision types. Dr. Kronowitz will determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your needs following your detailed consultation.

  • Periareolar Incision – This incision is made around the areola, the darker pigmented area surrounding the nipple. The periareolar incision allows for direct access to the breast tissue and can effectively address mild to moderate ptosis. It also provides the opportunity to resize and reposition the nipple-areolar complex if necessary.
  • Inframammary Incision – This incision is placed along the natural crease beneath the breast, where it is easily concealed by clothing and undergarments. The inframammary incision provides excellent access to the breast tissue and is particularly suitable for patients with more significant ptosis or those requiring extensive reshaping and lifting of the breasts.
  • Anchor/Inverted-T Incision – This combines the periareolar and inframammary incisions. This incision pattern is best suited for patients with substantial breast sagging and excess skin. The anchor incision allows for comprehensive reshaping and lifting of the breasts, providing a dramatic improvement in their appearance.
  • Short Scar Incision – The short scar incision, also known as the circumvertical incision, is similar to the vertical incision but with a shorter horizontal component. This incision type can minimize scarring while still achieving significant breast lifting and reshaping.
  • Lollipop Incision – The lollipop incision combines the periareolar and vertical incisions, resulting in a scar that resembles a lollipop shape. It is effective for addressing moderate ptosis and allows for reshaping of the breasts.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

  • Corrected Sagging or Drooping Breasts: If you have experienced sagging or drooping breasts due to factors such as pregnancy, weight loss, or aging, a breast lift can correct these issues and restore your breasts to a more youthful position.
  • Enhanced Breast Shape and Contour: A breast lift can restore youthful shape and fullness to your breasts, giving them a more lifted and balanced appearance.
  • Restored Symmetry Between Breasts: For those who have asymmetrical breasts, a breast lift can help achieve a more symmetrical appearance, enhancing overall balance and harmony.
  • Increased Clothing Options and Improved Fit: After a breast lift, you will find that your clothing options expand, as your newly lifted breasts will fit better in bras, swimsuits, and various types of clothing
  • Boosted Self-Confidence and Body Image: By addressing sagging or drooping breasts, a breast lift can significantly improve your self-confidence and body image, allowing you to feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin.

Candidates for a Breast Lift

Breast lift candidates are women who have:

  • Loose skin on the breasts
  • Sagging breasts due to weight fluctuations
  • Downward-pointing nipples
  • Stretched or elongated areolas
  • Asymmetrical breasts

Surgeons take a comprehensive medical and surgical history before all breast lift procedures. This encompasses questions about breastfeeding, if the patient has any family history of breast illness, or any other disease history that could affect their outcomes. Candidates for a breast lift should be non-smokers, or be willing to quit smoking in the weeks before and after their surgery. (2)

Personal Consultation

A personal consultation at Kronowitz Plastic Surgery is an essential step in determining whether a breast lift is the right procedure for you. Dr. Kronowitz understands that each patient has unique concerns and goals, and during this consultation, he will carefully assess your specific situation.

At your consultation, Dr. Kronowitz will review your medical history and discuss your cosmetic concerns. He will examine the current condition of your breasts, taking into consideration factors such as sagging or drooping, significant weight loss, multiple pregnancies and breastfeeding, asymmetry, stretched breast skin, loss of elasticity, loss of volume and shape due to aging, dissatisfaction with appearance, and overall self-confidence and body image.

Dr. Kronowitz will also evaluate your overall health to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. It is important for patients to have realistic expectations and understanding of what a breast lift can achieve.

Based on the information gathered during the consultation, Dr. Kronowitz will recommend the best course of action for your individual needs. In some cases, a breast lift alone may be sufficient to achieve the desired results. However, in other cases, additional procedures such as breast augmentation or reduction may be recommended to enhance the overall outcome.

Preparing for Surgery

  • Discontinuing medications and supplements: As instructed by our team, it is important to discontinue the use of blood thinners, supplements, and other medications that may interfere with the surgical process or postoperative healing.
  • Nicotine cessation: If you are a nicotine user, it is crucial to cease any nicotine use in the weeks leading up to your surgery. It is equally important to remain nicotine-free throughout the duration of your recovery. Nicotine can impede the healing process and increase the risk of complications.
  • Prescription fulfillment: To minimize any discomfort following the procedure, it is recommended to fill prescriptions for pain medication and antibiotics in advance. This way, you will have them readily available for use after your breast lift.
  • Transportation arrangements: Depending on the type of anesthesia used, it may be necessary to arrange for a ride home and an escort. Ensuring a safe and comfortable journey back from the surgical facility is essential for your well-being.
  • Time off from work and social commitments: Adequate rest is crucial for a successful recovery. Therefore, it is important to plan ahead and coordinate time off from work and other social commitments. Giving yourself ample time to rest and heal will contribute to optimal results.

Breast Lift Procedure

The procedure typically involves making incisions on the breasts, which may vary depending on the extent of correction required. Through these incisions, excess skin and tissue are removed, and the remaining breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to a higher position. If desired, implants can also be placed during the procedure to enhance the size and volume of the breasts.

Dr. Kronowitz utilizes advanced surgical techniques to ensure minimal scarring and natural-looking results. The incisions are strategically placed to be discreet and easily hidden by clothing or swimwear.

Our state-of-the-art facilities provide a safe and comfortable environment for your breast lift procedure. Our experienced medical team will guide you through every step of the process, ensuring your comfort and well-being.

Recovery & Results

It is normal to experience some swelling and bruising in the first few days after surgery. To help minimize swelling, it is advisable to keep your upper body elevated when resting. Applying ice directly to the breasts is not recommended as it may interfere with proper blood flow. However, any discomfort you may experience can be effectively managed through medication prescribed by Dr. Kronowitz.

During your recovery period, we will schedule regular follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and ensure that your healing process is going smoothly. You can generally return to work after approximately two weeks, unless your job involves strenuous physical activity. It is important to avoid any vigorous activities for several weeks following the procedure, unless otherwise instructed.

Once you have fully recovered from your breast lift surgery, you will notice a significant improvement in the appearance of your breasts. They will appear firmer, more lifted, and rejuvenated. The procedure will enhance the contours of your breasts, providing a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing shape. Any scarring resulting from the surgery will be meticulously concealed, leaving you with natural-looking results.
