Fat Injections: The New Facelift for Women & Men in the 40s & 50s

4 Minute Read:

Facelift surgery has long been the go-to procedure for women and men in their 40s and 50s with noticeable signs of aging. Facelift surgery is highly effective, particularly when sagging skin and tissues are present.

However, sagging skin and tissues are only part of the facial aging process; another factor is the loss of facial fat or loss of facial volume. And for some patients, the loss of volume is their primary concern.

These patients tend to be in their 40s and 50s (however, some patients may be younger or older) and still have adequate skin elasticity.

Because of this, a full facelift is not always necessary.

For these patients, Dr. Kronowitz, located in Houston, Texas, uses high-volume fat transfer to the face instead of traditional facelift surgery

Why Choose Fat Transfer to the Face Surgery

Not only can liposuction result in body sculpting, but the removed fat can be injected into the face to rejuvenate aging features.

One or multiple areas of the face can be injected with the fat, depending on the desires and needs of each patient.

These areas include fat injections in lips, fat injections to cheeks, fat injections under the eyes (tear troughs), or any other areas of the face.

The liposuction performed to accommodate the fat transfer to the face surgery can be taken from any place on the body, like abdominal liposuction, thigh liposuction, or any liposuction procedure.

What Is Fat Grafting to the Face?

After publishing his landmark study in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeryDr. Kronowitz in Houston, Texas, has continued to innovate fat transfer to face.

He rejuvenates and beautifies your entire face by restoring lost volume and the drooping caused by aging.

Fat grafting is a two-part plastic surgery procedure that uses fat taken from liposuction to increase the volume elsewhere, such as the facebreasts, or buttocks.

Once the fat is removed by liposuction for body contouring surgery, it is cleaned and injected into various parts of the face using needles. Dr. Kronowitz also injects stem cells (that are present in your fat) to restore the glimmer to your skin tone.

This can restore natural-looking and feeling volume to the face. This transferred fat is long lasting and does not require repeated injections like dermal fillers. Because fat grows and changes with you, you will continue to age naturally and gracefully.

What Is the Difference Between Fat Grafting and Facelift?

While they both address aging, facelift surgery and facial fat grafting address different concerns. Facelift surgery opens the face with incisions made on the sides of the face (in the hairline). These incisions allow Dr. Kronowitz to tighten underlying tissues, including skin, muscles, and fat, to restore smoother, lifted, and youthful contours.

Facelift surgery lifts and tightens tissues to remove fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin; it does not add any volume to the face.

Because loss of facial fat is so integral to visible facial aging, it must be addressed. The best way to do this is with facial fat grafting.

While facial fat grafting (fat transfer to the face) does not remove or significantly tighten skin, it fills the areas beneath it to plump up the contours. Additionally, because this treatment includes stem cells and helps boost collagen, it allows for some skin firming and improves tone and texture.

Am I a Candidate for Facelift Surgery or Facial Fat Grafting?

Patients in their 40s, 50s, and early 60s without excess skin in their necks and minimal jowls are excellent candidates for fat transfer. Fat transfer can even be used for some patients with

Fat graft restores the volume lost in the upper two-thirds of the face, reduces wrinkles, and minimizes nasolabial folds. Dr. Kronowitz uses fat grafting to accentuate the eyebrows, lips, and chin. Dr. Kronowitz also resurfaces the forehead, which tends to become thinner over time, and fills the temples.

Fat grafting also transfers stem cells to the aging skin and facial muscles. Thereby, the transferred fat not only restores the volume to an aging face but also leads to more youthful appearing skin and potentially more defined facial musculature with more pronounced animation.
