Injectables and Fillers Houston, TX

An injectable is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that offers a reduction of lines and wrinkles, restoration of facial volume, and rejuvenation of facial contours. Fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss develop because of repeated muscle contractions, natural tissue breakdown, sun damage, lifestyle choices, and harsh environments.

Surgical procedures like a facelift or a brow lift provide comprehensive treatment for signs of facial aging, but they are invasive and not necessarily your only option. Injectables and fillers like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Restylane® are ideal for patients who are starting to notice visible aging or for those looking to enhance their surgical results.

Dr. Steven J. Kronowitz at Kronowitz Plastic Surgery in Houston, TX is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience with injectable and filler applications. He specializes in natural-looking cosmetic enhancement of the face and body. If you are interested in these treatments and how they can help you enhance your features, schedule a consultation with him by calling our office directly at (713) 523-0300 or by filling out our convenient form today.

About Injectables & Fillers

Injectable treatments are a safe and reliable way to reduce the appearance of signs of aging in the face. They are also among the most popular non-surgical procedures in the United States. In fact, dermal fillers have seen an estimated 58% increase in prevalence in the past few years. (1) If you are looking for wrinkle reduction, facial rejuvenation, and safe contouring, Dr. Kronowitz can help you find the right product that fits your specific needs.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most commonly administered non-surgical treatment available for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. This injectable is a neuromodulator, meaning that it temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkling (expression lines).

BOTOX® Cosmetic:

  • Is FDA-approved for the reduction of crow’s feet
  • Is made of purified botulinum toxin type A
  • Only targets the wrinkle-producing muscles, preserving your ability for facial expressions

It may be used in the following areas:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead creases
  • Skin bands on the neck
  • Smile line around the mouth
  • Drooping nasal tips
  • Wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement

Dysport®

Much like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles by relaxing the wrinkle causing muscles.

Dysport®:

  • Is more diluted than BOTOX®, allowing it to spread to a broader area
  • May be used when addressing:
    • Frown lines
    • Forehead wrinkles
    • Under-eye wrinkles
    • Marionette lines
    • Fine lines around the mouth
    • Lip lines
    • Wrinkles on your face that develop due to repeated muscle contractions

Dermal Fillers

Unlike BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, which target lines caused by repeated muscle movements, dermal fillers address the permanent lines on your face that have developed due to the aging process, sun damage, and harsh environmental conditions.

Dr. Kronowitz offers Restylane-L® and Restylane® Lyft™ to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and restore facial volume.

Restylane-L® and Restylane® Lyft™:

  • Is FDA-approved
  • Consists of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that attracts and binds moisture
  • May be used when restoring volume to:
    • Thinning lips
    • Hollow cheeks
    • Nasolabial folds
    • Marionette lines
    • Tear troughs

Liquid Facelift

Facelift surgery is still essential for patients with moderate to severe facial aging, but some patients who display a lesser degree of aging or patients looking to postpone the need for facelift surgery may benefit from a liquid facelift.

A liquid facelift uses a combination of injectable treatments to restore a more youthful appearance.

A liquid facelift:

  • Targets wrinkles and fine lines
  • Softens deep creases like nasolabial folds or marionette lines
  • Contours the jawline
  • Improves sagging on the neck
  • Adds volume to the cheeks, chin, jawline, and under eyes
  • Plumps the lips

What are the Benefits of Injectables and Fillers?

There are plenty of benefits to receiving non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments. They can even be used as a preventative measure against future signs of aging.

Injectable treatments and fillers are beneficial for patients looking to:

  • Smooth fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Fill in deep creases like nasolabial folds or marionette lines
  • Restore volume to the cheeks
  • Plump the lips
  • Add fullness beneath the eyes (tear troughs)
  • Mitigate the beginning stages of visible aging

Injectables and filler treatments:

  • Are non-surgical
  • Do not require downtime
  • Will not result in scarring

Candidates for Injectables and Fillers

Candidates for injectables are:

  • Non-smokers
  • Generally healthy
  • Not allergic to any injectable ingredients
  • Realistic in their expectations
  • Understand that repeated treatments are necessary

Though they are not as long-lasting as some surgical remedies, these treatments can be a great option for those who are looking for a straightforward, cost-effective alternative

Personal Consultation

Dr. Kronowitz will ask you all about your expectations and concerns during your private consultation. He will use the opportunity to assess your skin’s condition and determine which types of injectables and fillers will work best for your specific needs. He will perform an examination of your skin quality and inquire about your medical history. This may include questions about past surgical or non-surgical procedures, allowing him to get acquainted with you as a patient.

How are Injectables and Fillers Administered?

Dr. Kronowitz administers injectables in-office himself. He has an in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy and understands how these treatments can enhance the contour and youthfulness of the face. He commonly uses a combination of treatments to target different areas of the face and various aspects of facial aging.

Dr. Kronowitz uses a gentle cleanser to remove product and debris from the targeted area. He applies topical numbing cream and waits around half an hour to ensure you will remain comfortable during your treatment. The treatment is administered through a very thin needle. During an injectable session, your entire face will be treated in order to maintain balance.

Recovery

There is no downtime or recovery period associated with injectable treatments. Patients may experience temporary bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection sites. These can be lessened with cold compresses and over-the-counter pain medication.

Because there may be some swelling, we suggest that patients avoid strenuous exercise or activity for 24 hours. Ignoring this recommendation may result in headaches.

Results

It takes the body up to one week for the muscles to relax following BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® injections. Patients will see a reduced amount of fine lines and wrinkles and experience a more youthful complexion.

You will begin to notice increased fullness immediately following your dermal filler injections, and the full extent of the results will be noticeable in a few days.

The body will eventually absorb or break down these injectables, so repeated sessions are required to maintain results. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® treatments usually last between three and four months, and dermal fillers last anywhere between six months to one year.

Injections can be safely repeated as often as necessary.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Injectable treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® may be combined with dermal fillers to target different areas of the face, or they can be used following facelift surgery or brow lift surgery to enhance the quality of the surgical results

Facelift

During a facelift procedure, Dr. Kronowitz focuses on lifting the midface skin and the muscles underneath to create a youthful appearance for patients experiencing facial aging. The procedure requires incisions near your hairline (and sometimes under the chin) and can often utilize liposuction to remove excess fat in the chin and neck area. For this surgery, Dr. Kronowitz addresses the muscle and tissue underneath the skin by suturing it to a tighter position, then trims any excess skin after lifting it to reduce wrinkles, folds, and fine lines. The incisions are placed discretely within the hairline to remain easily concealable after the healing process. (2)

Brow Lift Surgery

As the face ages, it can result in drooping eyelids and forehead wrinkles. Brow lift surgery addresses this by lifting the skin of the upper face. This procedure can be performed endoscopically, during which Dr. Kronowitz uses five small incisions in the scalp to maneuver the medical instrument. He lifts the brow utilizing the endoscopic camera, removing the need for conspicuous scarring and reducing the risk that can come from traditional brow lift procedures. Once the brows are lifted, he fixes the tissue higher to lift the brow line and upper eyelid fold. (3)

This procedure can give patients relief from drooping brows that are compromising their eyesight.

FAQ

Will my filler look natural?

It is important to choose a provider with the knowledge and experience to perform your injections with a sensitivity to your aesthetic needs. They can then use this knowledge to carefully place the products, allowing for very natural and effective results. Your provider will create a treatment plan that utilizes your already-present facial structure while placing the treatments to enhance it.

Are there possible side effects to getting BOTOX or dermal fillers?

You may experience slight swelling, redness, skin sensitivity, and occasional bruising, but these symptoms will subside within the week after treatment. If you have any lingering tenderness or swelling, contact your provider immediately.

Do I need to be over a certain age to receive injectables and fillers?

As long as you are over the age of 18, you can safely receive these treatments. Some patients wait until they are above a certain age only because that is when they may notice the effects of aging. Some injectables can be used prematurely, before severe wrinkling and fine lines accumulate, in younger patients. Patient age can vary widely, and it is ultimately your decision.
